In 1987, my filmmaker friend Mick Worthen contacted me and asked if I would like to appear in a Cream O' Weber commercial. The idea was that milk makes you grow tall. I was much less expensive than a Utah Jazz player. The ad ran in the Intermountain West in the fall of 1987. One huge benefit of being hired for the commercial was that I was required to shave my Tom Selleck wannabe moustache. Mike Lookinland, of Bobby Brady fame, was the clapperboard guy. He offered helpful acting tips. You wouldn’t think a ten-second commercial would be difficult, but it took over 30 takes. Timing each line — and not saying “of” instead of “O” — were my main difficulties. Also: I hate milk.
